The development of the new district is exceptional in many ways — in terms of urban planning, architecture, and the construction approach. Critics of the development point to the extent of the intervention into Castle Hill, the scale that significantly exceeds the original Vydrica, the architectural solution deemed by some as overly contemporary, or the increased traffic burden the completed complex is expected to bring. These are interconnected issues. The original fine-grained structure of historical Vydrica, in today's context of urban densification, would represent an underused potential. A somewhat larger scale corresponds to current housing standards and reflects today’s market demands. The design of the district fulfills all the criteria of what a good urban location for living and visiting should offer — consideration for human scale, safety, emphasis on walkability, protection from the elements, mixed uses, vibrant street-level activity, and most importantly, a lively streetscape program.
