Nový Ružinov is one of the pilot projects for the eastern expansion of Bratislava. It is also one of the best-connected areas in the city. Since 2015, a completely new urban district has been rising on Bajkalská Street, offering residents full urban living with comprehensive civic amenities and excellent access to the city center. Studio Compass has been actively involved in the project since 2009. Our goal is to create a functional, cohesive urban district with lively public spaces, quality services, and quiet inner courtyards — a place that is pleasant to live and work in. The first phase of the project consists of urban villas arranged in an “open palm” formation, surrounded by apartment buildings. Each residential building is slightly rotated to the others, creating sound and visual privacy while keeping the courtyards open and accessible. Nový Ružinov offers a variety of housing types, from small apartments with efficient layouts to terrace apartments and units with front gardens. All apartments include a continuous balcony, with villa units offering more prominent balcony spaces. The layouts allow for deep natural lighting and flexible usage. In the design, special emphasis was placed on greenery, parks, and playgrounds, with a generous central area dedicated to these functions. The park was designed by the landscape architecture lab LABAK.
